How much time and money would it cost to get FreeCAD to have feature-parity with Catia/NX?
I'm a startup CEO and we need CAD for our part and assembly designs. I'm a Linux and FOSS fanatic, but both BricsCAD and FreeCAD are insufficient for our needs, so I've bitten the bullet and decided to have our server Linux based, and our clients Windows based.
I would really like to go back to a full Linux engineering stack, but the only way for that to happen is for an enterprise level parametric CAD system to be made for Linux. BricsCAD is...not great for mechanical. You can't edit extrusions from the sections, my engineers hate it, it has stability issues, etc. FreeCAD works, it's fully parametric, but the interface is too clunky for us to use effectively. I think it also lacks a couple critical features (double-curve filets for wing fairings) that we need.
The question I have is, how much money would we have to dump on the FreeCAD team to make something that compares favorably to SolidEdge/SolidWorks in the short term, and Catia/NX in the long term?
suggests that it's a barebones project (all the more impressive for what they have). My intuition would say that it's about .75 Million/yr to get them to work fulltime + the admin staff required. That's the equivalent of ~40 Catia/NX licences. That makes it more than most companies spend on their CAD suite, but about a dozen companies pitching in their CAD budget would more than cover the costs.
Who knows, it's a crazy idea. But maybe it's feasible.

Problems With Split Tool CATIA V5
I am working on a project in which we are designing an aircraft from scratch, including internal structure. At the moment we are just using surfaces so it can be inported into ANSYS for structural analysis. The problem im running into is that when using the split tool to trim the lengthwise structure (longerons) using the skin of the aircraft, it isnt actually trimming to the surface and when i go to join the surfaces i get a connexity error. Can anyone recommend a way to get CATIA to actually trim to the surface im trimming with?
