Gaming and Digital Painting needs
I bought my last laptop in the spring of 2015. It was A lenovo Y something or other gaming pc. It has finaly bitten the dust.
While I couldnt complain about the performance, there were SIGNIFICANT complaints once the honeymoon phase was over. First the build quality left something to be desired. The shell had pressed the screen too tightly against the keyboard. One time the automatic sleep mode didnt engage when i closed the screen , and the backlit keyboard remained on. When I came back the next day, I was annoyed to find some significant (but still workable) burn in in the shape of the keyboard. In addition, the trackpad was mediocre at best. Before the lenovo I had a macbook pro, so the difference in trackpad quality was a bit of a shock. I refer to use a regular mouse, but sometimes if im just checking email or web browsing, its more conveniant than pulling out the corded mouse.
So now that im in the market, im looking for suggestions. Id prefer to stay under $2000, but could potentially bump up to $2500 If need be.
I do a fair amount of gaming (im really pumped for Baldurs Gate 3 and Bannerlord), but my primary concern is running my digital art software. I use adobe creative suite, But I also love Clip Studio, and Corell Painter, both of which lag significantly when using realbrush sims on the lenovo. Ive played a bit with 3d modeling too, but never seriously pursued it.
Having a good trackpad is a big plus for me, as other users in the house also grew frustrated with the lenovos. I would prefer a metal chassis rather than the plastic. 4k is nice, but not a necessity. Longevity and reliability are big concerns for me as well. Id really like a decent battery life (5+ hours).
At this time Im leaning towards the Razer Blade 15 adv with a rtx 2070 max q, 16 gig ram and 512 ssd. I regularily find open box or discounts either at or below my budget. However Ive been reading and their are some horror stories of bad customer service and defective batches. I use a lapdesk, so the heat issues dont bother me so much.
Can anyone either A. Tell me if the horror stories are still justified, or if they only affect a small number of razer owners. Or B. Have suggestions for suitable alternatives?
