Petty revenge. Customer wants the best, ends with the worst.
I just remember this and I have to share. Not my revenge, but was so surreal.
English is not my first language, so sorry in advance.
Years ago I got a new brand PC with the horrendous Windows Vista installed. Then, I made the mistake to left my PC unlocked when I went on vacation so my sisters can use it to help my nephews with their homework while I was away. When I came back, the PC was unusable and full of virus, so after the "I NEVER WILL LEAVE MY PC UNLOCKED AGAIN!", I took it to the tech (I didn't want to lose my files and the warranty will cover the mess, lucky me, so taking it to the tech was the best option).
When I arrived, a middle-aged lady, that didn't have an idea how a computer works, was there talking with the employee who is taking notes. Looks like her husband (a wedding photographer) asked her to take the PC to a tech to upgrade it and get several programs installed to make his work easy. She took it first to a cheap tech store to get the work done for a very low price. So the guy installed a lot of pirated versions of Photoshop, Coreldraw, Sony Vegas, etc. And a trial version of Windows XP (way more stable that the Vista, but still very limited for being a pirated trial operative system ).
I put my CPU on the counter, so I was listening to the whole exchange. After she tried to explain that she needs a program to "put sparkles in pictures", she proceeds to ask the very tired employee to "put the newest windows model" on her PC. We were in 2010, so he explained to her that he was going to install Windows 7. The lady smiles and asks for the newest "model" again. He explains that the newest operating system was Windows 7.
She reassured with him, always smiling, that he was not right. That the year was 2010, not 2007. So she wanted the Windows 2010, not 2007.
We both were incredulous. The tech and I exchange looks. The business phone rang and he excuses himself to answer. I swear to God that I tried to explain to the lady that Microsoft was not using years to name their versions anymore. That the newest was number 7 and has nothing to do with the year of 2007. She looks at me in silence and then smiles again in a condescending way.
"Well, but I want the 2010 version, not 2007. That was three years ago!"
Was like… goes in one ear and out the other. She did not listen, she did not care.
The tech comes back and tried to make her understand again. After 20 minutes he was officially done with the customer. Ensures that he will install a newer version of the one that already has the CPU and made her sign the order. After that she left fast, complaining that she had spent a lot of time there.
"I tried to explain her too, but she just doesn’t get it." I smiled at him while he tries to relax. "So… if she turns on the PC and notices the Windows 7 logo, she will be very pissed."
The guy just smiles back. "I know, that is why I will install her Vista."
He was a savage.
PD: He upgraded my Windows to 7 for free btw. New policy on the warranty because the Vista was a joke.
