Shadowplay Recordings Not Working With Camtasia Studio 8
Giving all the info I can to make life easier for all you fine folks here.
Shadowplay recording of Metro 2033 Redux recorded at 29fps and is about 1gb in size, 6 mins in length. I'm running a fresh install of Windows 10 off a freshly fully formatted 2TB hdd. Not a problem with Camtasia Studio 8, but if it helps I'm using the trial version (which has all the same features). I can't use another program because I already bought it on my old computer and am going to reinstall it when the trial period runs out from the CD I got in the mail when I bought it. I don't want to do this until I absolutely have to (long story involving a possibly broken OEM disk reader from when I rebuilt my PC last week). Hardware specs are: MSI GTX 980, intel dz gaming mobo, intel i7 2600s, 8gigs RAM, rest of hardware is irrelevant.
The error seems to be the codec (not sure what that is, but everybody is saying that's the problem when I google the file incompatibility). The recording goes fine, but when I attempt to import the file into Camtasia, it gives me this error message:
Cannot load file 'C:\Users\Ralph Arwen\Desktop\ShadowPlayRecordings\Metro Redux\Kill Me Already.mp4'. It is either an unsupported media type or required codecs are not found.
I've been using Cancertasia 8 for the past year or more, and this is the first time I've come up against something I simply cannot fix on my own. It's really "good" footage, and I have a bunch more "quality" footage from TF2 I need to use but I have the same issue with. The only fix I've seen online is to play the footage in Media Player or whatever and record that with the screen recorder built into C8. This method is disgusting and time consuming - not only because of the quality dropoff in audio and video that would surely occur from this, but because it is such an incredibly time consuming way to "fix" the problem (and it's only a shitty workaround). I do a lot of recording and video editing so just "working around" this isn't an option.
WHAT I WOULD LOVE MORE THAN ANYTHING:
A free program that will somehow patch the issue or convert the file to something that I can use in Camtasia 8. I don't even mind a drop in quality, as long as it doesn't make it absolutely disgusting. It's not like my audience demands anything greater than liquid shit anyway. Sorry for the long post, wanted to make sure I got as much as I could about my situation down to save you guys trouble. Thanks so much for reading the whole way through! This seems to be a problem for a great deal of people, and there seems to be no fix. Somehow finding a solution could save a great many other people's footage and time as well.
