Samsung Galaxy S5 - Accidental Factory Reset
Got no response for this from the Galaxy S5 forum, so I'll try it here. Long story short - my phone's internal memory got wiped.
There was an accidental factory reset (still not sure what happened) and my data was blanked. Attempts to use Android data recovery software failed, but it did install a useless rooting program and crapware on there, complicating recovery. As such, I rooted the phone (swapping kernels to do so) and got a dd image of the device's raw memory.
I have run several undeletion programs on the dd image and have found nothing of value from the time period between the last backup and the time the phone was reset. It almost seems as though all traces were simply blanked. So far as I know, though, given
claims of data recovery on reset devices using open source tools, there should have just been a quick format and no overwriting, so there should still be at least some of the data there. I had several hundred MB on the memory, so I don't see how it ALL could have been overwritten, since I have used the phone very little since then. I suspect that there may be something going on with TRIM (wear leveling), but I have no idea how to get data out from that - or if it can even be done, or what it would require.
As such, all things considered - do I have a realistic chance of getting this data back, and do I have a realistic chance of not destroying the phone to do it? And is there any price range that I can expect?
Any insights are appreciated.
