Please look at my most recent guide, it's more organized and has much more information- https://www.reddit.com/Wizard101/comments/cs4d6z/a_wizards_handbook_to_everything_you_need_for_pve/
The purpose of this post is to help the returning players or newcomers in Wizard101. I will be covering (most) of the basic information that is needed for this game and that being said this is a PVE guide so any PVP information I sadly won't be able to answer since I personally don't care much for the PVP in this game.
So to answer the most asked question...NO this game is not dead.
Wizard101 is still going strong with thousands of players even though Kingsisle has done a poor job of listening to their community and have done some greedy actions over the past year. However don't let this distract you since this game is still amazing. I thought I could answer this since I'm tired of see this question on the Subreddit.
Which school should you pick...
Death-My personal favorite school in the game. These guys are the king of solo PVE in my opinion due to their ability to drain health and do damage at the same time. They also have decent accuracy and health and isn't a glass cannon like storm. However you don't get your aoe until level 48 (unless you have deerknight) which results in slow progression in the first arc. If you plan on doing solo PVE then this is the perfect school for you.
Storm- Easily the most offensive school in the game. If you want to do big-boy damage then you should choose this school. The downside however is they have horrible accuracy which results in Fizzle101 during the early stages of the game and have the lowest hp out of any school. However storm clears out enemies quickly because of its absurdly high damage and early aoe. With the right gear, the low accuracy and hp will not be a bothersome. In the end, if you favor an offensive playstyle and want to do big hits, then this is the school for you.
Fire-Most people refer to this school as a weaker version of storm, however I strongly disagree. Fire simply has a different approach to dealing damage compared to storm, storm has high damage 1 hit spells while fire has a damage over time play style. Technically fire actually does the most damage out of any school however the damage is delivered through DOT which makes storm more enjoyable to others. Fire also has better accuracy and better defense overall to storm and also has an early aoe. If you want to deal damage with DOT and have slightly better defensive stats compared to storm, then this is the school for you.
Life-The healing school of this game. This school is for players who enjoy healing themselves and others and overall, just enjoy the support play style. Life is the school literally EVERYBODY wants to have around because of the amount of healing spells in their kit. Life also has the most accuracy in the game but sadly lack a lot of offensive power. Life's damage is weak (obviously) and don't get their first AoE until literally level 58. Because of this, their solo pve progression is EXTREMELY slow compared to other schools. If you plan on playing with friends and/or enjoy the support play style then this is the school for you.
Ice- Don't ever want to die? Then pick this school. Ice is the tank of the game and has huge defensive stats. Their damage however is very lackluster compared to storm, fire etc which results in a slow Pve progression. However due the insane defensive stats you will rarely die. Im not even joking you can get up to 10,000 hp and you have many shields at your disposal. Not to mention they are a top school in PvP. If you enjoy having high defensive stats and have a defensive play style then pick this school.
Balance- Definitely a unique school compared to the rest. Balance has many blades at its disposal along with an ok amount of heals and their damage overall isn't too bad (better then ice and life but not as good as storm and fire to put it in perspective). Like ice, these guys are also a solid school for PvP. One of the biggest downsides is they have no prism so you have to use elemental damage to bosses which is RNG. Like life, balance is a solid support school to pick, with storm and balance being the strongest pve combo IMO with the amount of blades balance has. Overall if you plan on doing pvp and/or want to play a support role like life, then this school is a solid choice.
Myth- Decided to edit this since a lot of people getting angry at this one and I think I went a little too hard on the school. Myth is not a bad school and can be reliable. However it doesn't stand out compared to the other schools. Fire and storm tend to be the hitters. Ice and death the tank and Balance and life the support. Overall Myth is the the middle section of everything. Lack of heal spells and good AoE give this school a bad rep. I do believe its an underperforming school, but it's still reliable and can solo pve just like every other school. Matter of preference is key.
Edit-As I said I don't have high knowledge of this school, but look at the comments and many myth wizards are giving good detailed information!
Gear- This is a basic gear guide throughout the levels, now of course this can be changed by your preference and school but this is a good layout to look at.
Levels- 1-30- Just look at the bazaar gear. For heavens sake don't waste your money on crown gear. The problem is that the crown gear will be good for maybe 5-10 levels then get replaced. However there are a few things to look at in the crown shop for new wizards.
- Mount- If you can't afford it don't worry about it. You will be able to buy a mount with gold later throughout questing. There are some pretty good looking mounts that can be bought with crowns though but overall a mount is a must in this game.
- Heartsteel- Buy this please. Its very cheap so you can do trivia quizzes and watch ads since its only 260 crowns. The 5% universal resist is so helpful in the first arc especially for offensive schools (storm, fire).
- Ascendant staff- Gives you an extra pip with no level requirement which makes the early game surprisingly fast, if you are willing to spend 5 bucks that is.
Levels- 30-60- Mount Olympus baby. The Senator gear and Zeus gear (if you are lucky) will easily last you until waterworks. You also get a 10% damage wand that you are going to use pretty much until level 90 (unless you buy packs). Mount Olympus
Levels 60-90- Waterworks, not much else to say. Wintertusk crafting gear is a good substitute if you are not a fan of farming. You can also use some pieces of the Avalon and Azteca crafting gear since the waterworks has low critical block (the bosses love to crit in Avalon and Azteca). Zigzag is also worth looking at if you're no a fan of waterworks. Waterworks
. House of Scales
Level 90-Tartarus, you can use waterworks all the way up to Darkmoor but if you want to you can stop and farm at Tartarus. Tartarus
is the staple gear. At this point depending on your school is what specific gear you will use. For example certain pack gear, and krokopatra. Like I said this is more of a general gear guide. You will have to do deeper research if you want to know the best gear for whatever school at max level.
With Rings and Athames not much can be said about them. Some good ones can be found in the earlier levels in the Tower of elephant and the Alpha and omega ring is amazing at level 90. Blade of the felled titan is a good Athame at level 90 with the Alpha omega ring. Wands beyond Sky Iron Hasta can be found in packs for crit and block or the Hades wand.
Pets- Pets are very helpful to have but also a pain to get the correct stats.
Generally having a perfect pet isn't too important for pve especially in the early worlds but they defiantly do help when it comes to questing. Usually the most wanted stats in pve pets are Resist, Damage, Maycasts (usually heals) and crit. A triple double pet (Double resist, 3 damage) is the most basic but also a very helpful pet in pve. Im not going to go too in depth on pets, but generally you want to try an get a pet with a combination of either the four stats I said above for pve depending on your preference. I recommend a triple double if you are not sure where to start.
Picking the type of pet is also important. You want to try to get a pet that gives you an extra school blade because this can be extremely helpful in dishing out damage. Also try to get a pet that gives you an Aoe if you are playing the following schools- Death, Myth and Life. These are the pets I recommend getting for the schools- Gloomy Eye Wandering Eye Kookaburra
. These pets provide a good early AoE which Death and Life lack and a decent AoE for Myth.
Ice to tower shield- Every school should do this. Tower shield is an amazing defensive spell for the entire playthrough.
Life to Satyr- I strongly recommend getting this if you are playing offensive schools such as fire and storm. If you don't have the mastery amulet for life then I personally wouldn't do this since 4 rounds is a long time to last on low hp. If you don't have the Amulet stop at sprite instead.
Death to feint- 70% trap? Yes please. I personally get this in every school its such a helpful card.
Elemental blade and traps- Extra blade and trap, whats not to like?
Reshuffle- Comes in clutch when you run out of spells.
Sun to colossal- Must have enchantment. Gives you an amazing damage boost on your spells.
Sharpened blade and potent trap- Increase the power of your blades and traps
Edit- Star-Damage Auras- Helpful in getting that last bit of damage out (Fortify,Virulence if you're death)
These are all the recommended spells I look into when spending my training points in order. Of course it depends on your preference.
Thats it folks! Now If I missed anything important in this guide or have any questions just let me know down below in the comments. This guide was made for new players or early level players in the game so most of you hardcore veteran players most likely knew about this information already. Hope you all had a Merry Christmas and a Happy New year!
