Big problems with Windows 8.1 OS-- start menu freezes, can't log off or shut down, and more
I got my Asus M32 computer a few weeks ago, and it has been working perfectly, until today.
I installed Visual Studio Community 2013, and was playing League of Legends while it installed. After it installed, it said that it needed to restart, so I finished my game of League and restarted the computer. Here's where things went downhill.
I opened the bar that moves over the right of the screen to click the search button, and then the side bar went away and I was unable to reopen it. The start button was stuck black, like my mouse was over it, and I couldn't click it. I couldn't even access the start menu from the key on my keyboard.
I tried shutting my computer down, but it got stuck on the shutting down screen, so I had to shut it off with the power button...
I've turned it on and off with the power button about 20 times now because the problem repeats.
I can't use the recycle bin, Kaspersky can't open (it gets stuck on a loading screen), ccleaner gets stuck deleting. Nothing on my computer works. The settings button freezes the computer for a few minutes, and the search button freezes it for good until I turn it off.
(Edit: Also, factory reset is not a solution, because as I said, I can't open the settings. That was my first idea.)
Also, when I try accessing the search menu from my desktop, an Asus SecureDelete (not sure why it's SecureDelete, but it's just an error from the computer itself) window pops up with some error, "system.runtime.interopservices.comexception 0x80010002" and several other lines but I forgot to type the rest on my phone before I closed the window.
What do I do? I was waiting until my paycheck to buy a Flash drive to back Windows onto, and I guess I was a week too late...
Worst case scenario, though, can I just buy a Windows 8.1 disc and put it in and it'll load it up when I turn my computer on?
Of course I'd like to hear some possible solutions before I buy a disc, but $80 is better than some of the other things I'm worrying about...
Edit: I also can't open task manager, the control panel freezes, etc. It seems like every Windows 8.1 and administrative desktop feature doesn't work anymore. And I haven't installed any viruses, I only have Kaspersky, League of Legends, ccleaner, Google Chrome, and GIMP...
